Enemy – Maladjusted 12” (11 PM Records)
Enemy hail from Los Angeles and deal in straight-up US hardcore that bristles with unrestrained intensity. A rampantly fluid rhythm section is at the heart of Enemy’s sound forging a pulsating partnership with the burly vocals, while affording the guitars scope for flourishes of melodic invention. Mixing modern influences from the west coast with classic 80's US HC, Enemy is one of the west coast's most consistent bands.
Like a rocket from LA to the moon, Enemy takes off with their new record Maladjusted. Returning from a split from LA's Downsided last year, Enemy brings their brand of straight forward LA style punk to their debut LP. The lyrics address economic exploitation on Unprecedented / Zero Sum Game (‘Unprecedented for who? A system designed to kill’) and Killing Wage (‘Digging my own grave, living on a killing wage’) as well as police brutality on Barricade Brigade. Tracks such as Self-Abuse and Remorse/Less explore more personal themes of self-doubt. Great sketched cover art as well. Featuring guest vocals from Chris from Richard Rose and GOGGS, Enemy is in good company and you will love Maladjusted.
